Who Do You Want to Please?

đź“– Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)
This question strikes a powerful chord: whom do we really want to please?
We live in an era defined by constant expectations, opinions, and pressures. Social media, work, family, and even the church can—without us realizing it—drive us toward a life guided by the desire for human approval. Little by little, we risk shaping our decisions in order to be accepted, praised, or recognized.
Jesus is the ultimate example of someone who lived exclusively to please the Father. At no point did He seek popularity or personal comfort. Many of His words challenged religious leaders, crowds, and even His own disciples. Jesus healed, taught, and loved deeply, yet He never compromised the truth to retain followers. Even when doing so led to rejection, suffering, and the cross, He remained faithful to God’s will.
The life of Jesus teaches us that pleasing God will not always be the easiest path, but it will always be the truest one. Obedience to the Father cost Christ everything, yet it also brought redemption, life, and hope to all humanity. When we choose to please God, we may face misunderstanding, criticism, or loneliness. But we gain something far greater: communion with Him and peace in our hearts.
Today, this question resonates within each of us. Do our decisions reflect God’s will or a fear of displeasing others? Does our character remain steadfast even when no one is watching? Let us live like Jesus, with our eyes fixed on the Father, confident that pleasing Him is the greatest purpose of our journey. After all, pleasing God means living in harmony with the very reason for which we were created.
Living to please God each day
- Before making a decision, pray and ask yourself if your choice glorifies God—even if it entails rejection, discomfort, or the temporary loss of human approval.
- Examine your motives, checking whether your attitudes, words, and stances reflect sincere obedience to God or merely a desire for constant social acceptance.
- Have the courage to follow Jesus’ example by remaining faithful to the truth, even when it costs you relationships, personal comfort, or fleeting earthly recognition.
To pray: Lord God, we come before You with humility, asking You to align our will with Yours. Teach us to live not to please others, but to honor Your name in every decision. Grant us the courage to follow Jesus’ example, standing firm in the truth even in the face of difficulties. Purify our intentions, strengthen our faith, and guide our steps according to Your purpose. May our lives glorify You today and always. In Jesus’ name, amen. 🙏
