Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” (John 13:7)

How many times have we asked or questioned God about why a certain situation is happening in our lives? Often, when something happens that is beyond our control and we do not understand. It could be the loss of someone, the end of a relationship, an illness, an accident, unemployment, or disappointment... We ask the Lord why, and we simply cannot understand.

However, the Bible teaches us that God is always in control of everything. If we have Him as the author and finisher of our faith, we can trust and rest in Him. We may not comprehend what Jesus is doing, but He knows very well. Later, we will understand that everything that happens to us contributes to our growth in faith, love, and knowledge of the Lord. Even when we don’t understand, our character is being shaped as we go through difficulties, trusting and loving God with all our heart.

Understanding what God is doing:

  • Trust more! Try to remember past events that helped you grow and depend more on God.

  • Pray and place everything in the Father’s hands, including all your questions or doubts. Believe that He knows and has control over everything.

  • Jesus is our best example. Read the Bible and learn about His love, His service, and His unconditional surrender.

  • Lay all your anxieties and your heart at the feet of Christ’s cross. Rest in the peace of Jesus.

  • Believe even before you understand what is happening.

  • Share your doubts with brothers and sisters who are more experienced in the faith and ask them to pray for you.

To pray: Lord my God, even though I don’t understand the reason for all the turbulence I’m going through, I want to trust more in You and Your Word. Help me to believe with all my heart that You have control of my life in Your hands. I trust that You are good and faithful and that You have a firm purpose in all things. Give me strength and increase my faith more each day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
