If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. - 1 Corinthians 13:1
Love is the essence of all Christian actions. Loving people is a commandment from God. He said we should love our neighbor as ourselves, so it is extremely important. Love is so powerful that Jesus calls us to love our enemies, those who want to destroy us.
The apostle Paul, reflecting on love, goes on to say that even if miracles and wonders are performed, without love, those things are useless. Love is the essence of Christian actions like the soul is to human life. It is what fills and gives meaning. Helping others through advice or financial support is not very valuable if you do not love that person and does not make much sense before God.
Love without fear
- Try to understand what has prevented you from loving people.
- Remember that God loves you, even when no one deserves His love.
- Ask God to open your heart so you can love.
- Help your neighbor by loving them.
For prayer: Lord, forgive me if I have stopped loving my neighbor. Father, I ask that the Holy Spirit empowers me to love the people around me even if they do not deserve it, for you loved me when I did not deserve it. I see in your love for your children an example for me of how to love people, dear God. Amen.
